Carla Robinson is the Director of Communications and Business Development. Carla is a former CBC-TV news anchor who hosted many news and current affairs shows in her 13 years with the national broadcaster. Carla holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications from Carleton University and a Master’s degree in Journalism from the University of Western Ontario.
Having grown up in two small First Nation communities, Kitamaat and Bella Bella, BC, Carla is very comfortable designing and giving presentations in Native communities. In addition to her communications background and research experience working as a journalist, she brings a deep understanding of indigenous knowledge to her work.
Carla was brought on board to Abor Group in 2012 to be the celebrity spokesperson for the Aboriginal Conservation Program and its Director of Communications. To meet the program’s conservation objectives and encourage people to participate and sign up, she designed a fun and interactive presentation “The Conservation Walkabout” that shared knowledge from an indigenous perspective. She also created a warm and welcoming space in the community launches or workshops where people could enjoy learning about saving energy and the environment, and how they could participate in the program. Over the three year initiative Carla and Drew gave 57 community presentations across Ontario.
